"Nobody Beats Mayslacks Meats!"

The Soul of Nordeast Minneapolis!

Mayslack’s isn’t just a bar — it’s a Nordeast landmark. Founded in 1955 by “Handsome Stan” Mayslack, a former pro wrestler and proud son of Polish immigrant parents, this corner tavern on 4th Street NE has been pouring cold beers and stacking legendary garlic roast beef sandwiches for over 70 years.

"The floor tiles are cracked, the bar is dimly lit, and the booths are creaky and private. It is simply a dive bar — and I immediately loved it."

From its roots as Mayslack’s Polka Lounge — where Stan hosted overflowing crowds for every holiday from New Year’s Eve to Chinese New Year — to today’s beloved weekend atmosphere, the spirit of this neighborhood institution remains unchanged.

Mayslack’s has a small on-site parking lot available for guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Mayslack’s isn’t just a bar — it’s a piece of Minneapolis history.

We’ve been here since 1955. Founded by “Handsome Stan” Mayslack — a Polish-immigrant pro wrestler turned neighborhood barkeep — Mayslack’s has been serving the Nordeast community for over 70 years from the same corner, in a building that has been pouring drinks since 1900.

The Original Roast Beef Sandwich is legendary. Stan’s slow-roasted garlic beef sandwich is the reason people drive across the metro. Made the same way since day one — eight hours slow-roasted in garlic, piled high with banana peppers, onions, and served with au jus. “Nobody Beats Mayslack’s Meats.” Use two hands.

It’s an authentic Nordeast dive bar. The original tile floors, the dim lighting, the creaky wooden booths — it’s all still here, exactly as Stan left it. No theme, no gimmick. Just a real neighborhood bar with real character, real food, and cold drinks at honest prices.

It was featured in a Hollywood film. Mayslack’s served as the filming location for “Slippery’s Tavern” in the 1995 Warner Bros. comedy Grumpier Old Men, starring Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, and Sophia Loren. Walk in today and it still looks the same.

Daily specials worth planning around. Taco Tuesday, Wing Wednesday, Pizza & Pints Thursday, half-price apps on Sunday, and Happy Hour Monday through Saturday. There’s always a reason to come in.

Whether you’re a lifelong Nordeaster or visiting for the first time, Mayslack’s is the kind of place you walk into once and come back to for the rest of your life.
